為何 ACE 建議學生考 SAT 測驗?
SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) 是由美國大學理事會 (College Board, CB) 委託教育測驗服務 (ETS) 舉辦,屬於美國版的大學學測,大部分的美國大專院校皆以SAT成績作為入學標準。即便近期有不少大學將SAT成績改為自選 (optional),ACE仍認為SAT的成績高低可能成為學生是否進入夢想校系的決定性因素。簡而言之,SAT考得高,對於學生有益無害。

The SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) is administered by ETS under the authorization of the College Board (CB). It serves as the U.S. equivalent of a university entrance exam, and most American colleges and universities consider SAT scores as an important part of their admissions criteria.
Although many schools have recently made the SAT optional, ACE firmly believes that a strong SAT score can still be a decisive factor in determining whether a student is admitted to their dream school or program. In short — doing well on the SAT can only help, not hurt.

Most students begin preparing for the SAT during the summer before Grade 11. Starting in 2024, both U.S. and international test centers have officially switched to the digital format, now known as the Digital SAT, with total scores ranging from 400 to 1600.
The test consists of two main sections, divided into four modules:
Section 1
Reading and Writing
54 multiple-choice questions
Total time: 64 minutes
Assesses reading comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar skills
Section 2
Math
33 multiplchoice and 11 free response questions
Total time: 70 minutes
A calculator is allowed for the entire section
Covers algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and data analysis
No penalty for wrong answers
SAT uses anadaptive testing model, meaning each section is split into two modules.
Thus, no two students receive the exact same questions.
Because harder modules yield higher potential scores, even a few missed questions can still result in a top score if a student reaches the higherifficulty module. The score gap between difficulty levels can be significant — another reason why solid preparation is essential.
After each SAT, the College Board provides students with a detailed score report and performance feedback. While there is no limit to how many times a student can take the SAT, ACE advises against taking the test too frequently. Instead, thorough preparation and taking the exam only when ready is a much more effective strategy for college applications.

Both the SAT and ACT are widely accepted by U.S. colleges and universities, but they differ in structure and focus. Here’s a quick overview:
| SAT | ACT | |
|---|---|---|
| Test Subjects | Reading & Writing, Math | English, Math, Reading, Science |
| Total Duration | 2 hours 14 minutes | 2 hours 55 minutes – 3 hours 35 minutes |
| Total Questions | 54 | About 215 |
| Adaptive Testing | Yes | No |
| Time Management | More time per question; higher question difficulty | Less time per question; faster pacing required |
Compared to the ACT, the SAT gives students about 68% more time per question, though the questions are often more conceptually challenging.
To determine which test best suits you, ACE recommends taking mock exams for both SAT and ACT before making your choice.
There are approximately 8 international test dates each year.
